There are two exchange types, both of which allow participants to chat on Skype with their correspondent in a real life situation, much different than learning in a structured classroom. There is no programme to follow, no imposed timetable, just two acquaintances and, hopefully, future friends chatting together.
#High School and College students studying French:
These are two-way exchanges, with correspondents chatting in the other's language while giving each other friendly feedback to improve. Past experience confirms that improving conversational ability not only results in major increases in oral exams but also in written exams because of a deeper and more personal understanding of the language.
#Non French-speaking students of all ages wanting to chat with a French person:
In this case, the French correspondents already have a good knowledge of English, allowing for conversation to occur entirely in English. French correspondents improve their spoken English while learning about America and American correspondents obtain a personal insight into French culture and society.
